“Children in Somalia threatened to become the victims of disaster-fatigue”
The world seems to be suffering from ‘disaster-fatigue’. However, we must not allow the children in Somalia and rest of the Horn of Africa to become a victim, argues Anthony Lake, Director of UNICEF International.
Current Situation In parts of Somalia, 390,000 children are suffering from hunger and famine. At this moment, the lives of 140,000 children are in danger, according to UNICEF.
In three-quarters of the cases, this involves children less than five years-old. Poor hygiene, lack of clean water, overcrowded camps and high malnutrition rates constitute ideal conditions for outbreaks of infectious diseases like Cholera.......
“Remember that these statistics are actually little boys and girls, sons and daughters”
Children are the face of this crisis. We are obliged to them to act immediately, firmly and to give long-term support, maintains the Director of UNICEF.

The Nabaddoon Yahya Foundation, Peace Institute for Somalia, named after the Somali peace activist Abdulkadir Yahya Ali, promotes peace through knowledge and dialogue.
In the 1990’s and beginning of this century, Yahya was an inspiring champion of peace and reconciliation. Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan referred to Yahya as a symbol of hope for the people of Somalia. During the nineteen-nineties and in the beginning of this century, Yahya worked enthusiastically for peace in Somalia and it was for this cause that he on 11 july 2005 paid the ultimate price.
