ONE HUNDRED SOMALIAN CHILDREN GO TO SCHOOL

_

Every child has the right to education for a better future. In Somalia, a country with around 10 million inhabitants, more than 2.5 million children have not had the opportunity to go to school for more than two decades. Because of the enduring civil war, these kids live all of their lives in one of the most dangerous regions in the world. As a result, generations of children are unskilled, uneducated and have no perspective. They may lag behind in their critical thinking and development for the rest of their lives.

Education gives much meaning to the lives of children. By being part of the educational system, children experience structure and stability. Furthermore, it is necessary for the children to learn that war and violence are not the norm or the solution for conflicts.

Nabaddoon Yahya Peace Institute for Somalia believes that especially children in warzones should have the opportunity to exercise their right to education.

We consider education as a core value and basic right for every child in the world. One of our objectives is to be 100% dedicated to support the Somali children. We will start a fundraising campaign in 2011 and in cooperation with Center for Research and Dialogue (CRD) in Somalia we will reach 100 children who will have the opportunity to go primary school for 10 consecutive years. 100% dedication for 100 children! We target the most vulnerable children in the Somali society spread across the country: disabled children, orphans and children from minority groups (tribes). We strive to support 50 girls and 50 boys by providing them with education and following their development for a period of at least 10 years.

Apart from the current project, we eventually strive for all Somali children to receive “Peace Education”. In this way, children learn values and norms based on peace, human rights and reconciliation. Children are the future of Somalia!

We trust that the children will make a solid contribution to sustainable peace for Somalia. And we hope that with your help this campaign will be successful.

Please, help us to achieve this noble objective. We are counting on you.
